Puppetsweat production at West End Studio Theatre
PORTSMOUTH, N.H. - This weekend, Pontine is offering an original production at its West End Studio Theatre. This is not one of its own, but one created through the Connecticut-based Puppetsweat Theatre, which was founded in 1991 by Fulbright Scholar Robert Bresnick and Leslie Weinberg.
"Three Tales by Poe" features Edgar Allen Poe stories that have been adapted for this production, which includes original music. The adapted stories are "The Tell-Tale Heart," "Manuscript Found in a Bottle" and "The Man of the Crowd."
With work similar to that of Pontine's in its own original productions, Puppetsweat represents appropriate entertainment for the audiences who frequent the West End Studio Theatre on Islington Street. As does Pontine, Puppetsweat Theatre uses a complicated and balanced mix of dance, acting, masks, puppets, manipulation of objects, music, multimedia and voice to tell a story - and it might base that story on research, famous literature or folklore.
Off-Broadway and Off-Off-Broadway venues such as La Mama, E.T.C. and PS 122 have played host to performances by Puppetsweat.
Bringing the production company here offers a rare opportunity for Seacoast audiences.
Performances are this Friday, March 16, at 8 p.m.; Saturday, March 17, at 4 p.m. and 8 p.m., and Sunday, March 18, at 2 p.m.
