YMS hockey, York Seacoast teams advance in playoffs

YORK - Following a regular season record of 12-4, the York Middle School team has advanced in the playoffs with a 2-1 victory over a stubborn Westbrook team.

Conor O'Brien scored on a breakaway and then Anthony Figlioli scored the eventual game-winner midway through the second period, assisted by Thomas Cifrino.

York held off 10 Westbrook powerplays with the goaltending of Alex Ahrikenchikh and the defense of Arran Maran, Cifrino, George Lindbom and Mike Valeri.

Key penalty killers were Zach Franklin, Christian Going, Craig Decato, Shane Hughes, Tyler Lewis and Dillon Dellapasqua.

The next game will be against the winner of the Kennebunk and Brunswick teams on March 19 in Falmouth.

The York Seacoast team has followed up a regular season championship with a first-round victory over Biddeford, 4-1.

Dave Figlioli scored two goals, including one short-handed, while Chris Ockerbloom scored, assisted by Craig Decato, in the third period and then Adam Ehrenborg added a late goal assisted by Sam Ciccolini-Foley and Ockerbloom.

A solid team effort by PJ Stocks, Corey Decato, Tanner Chase, Thomas Cifrino, Shane Hughes, Christian Going, Aaron Gootee, Tyler Lewis and Mike Valeri held off a very good Biddeford team.

Alex Ahrikenchikh was very solid in net once again.
