This summer, join the Old York Garden Club for "16 Sundays in the Garden," a unique local garden tour inspired by the version popular throughout England. Getting goose bumps from head toe while watching The Sound of Music was one of the things that inspired Rita Leroux to create a musical about the life of Jesus. The First Parish Church will hold its Annual Service Auction and Chowderfest this Saturday, March 24, beginning at 5 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall adjacent to the church. This week's happenings

To celebrate Women's History Month, historic re-enactor Jessa Piaia will present a one-woman interpretation of pioneer aviatrix Amelia Earhart entitled "Meet Amelia Earhart (1897-1937): First Lady of the Air." The Old York Garden celebrates its 75th anniversary in 2007 Back in October, a grand home, located only a short walk's distance from Harbor Beach, was sold at an on-site estate auction for a total of just over $1 million. The opening of Third Annual York Public Library Student Art Show drew what might have been one of the largest turnouts ever at the library's opening reception on Friday, Feb. 2. Pictured on the soft-cover catalogue accompanying the exhibition, "The World of John Brewster, Jr.," currently at the Portland Museum of Art, is a full-length portrait of an unidentified little girl. 2007 marks the 20th anniversary of the establishment of National Women's History Month. Originally begun as a commemorative week in California, the event has expanded over the years in much the same way that our awareness of the contributions of women has expanded.
