JV girls' hockey defends title

The JV Lady Wildcats have secured back-to-back championships. YORK - The girls; junior varsity hockey club team put on an impressive showing to defend their title in the Second Annual Back Bay JV Tournament, held March 11 through 17.
York led off bracket play with a dominating performance against Cape Elizabeth, winning 7 to 2. They were led by Kelly Landry's three goals, with Alex Haight, Kat Hird, Natalie Mendoza and Nell Henderson-Brown adding one each. Assists went to Emily Bauman (2), Danielle Clements, Hird, Ashley Taylor and Chrissy Keroack. Ashly Neal and Kasey Coffenbury shared goaltending duties throughout the tournament.
Next up was Greely, with the York skaters coming away with a 4 to 2 victory. Henderson-Brown contributed two goals, Sara Hanlon scored one and Linnie Blais topped off the scoring. Assists went to Kristina Clements, Mendoza, Chelsea Hutchings and Blais.
York squeezed out their third and final game of bracket play against Cheverus, by a tally of 2 to 1. The Wildcats trailed 1 to 0 until late in the third period, when Blais scored two beautifully crafted goals. Neal had the lone assist as a forward skater. Coffenbury played a solid game in net for the York pucksters.
The JV Lady Wildcats finished off their championship run by defeating Gorham, also undefeated, by a final score of 4 to 1. Haight, Blais, Henderson-Brown and Hutchings scored for York. Both Neal and Coffenbury made some incredible saves to secure the trophy for York.
