Strong skating for Seacoast Bantams and YMS hockey
YORK - It has been a week of wins for the York Seacoast Bantams and the York Middle School hockey teams. The York Seacoast team beat Dover last week in triple-overtime, securing a spot in the finals for the Seacoast League.
Christian Going scored on a power play with less than a minute left in the third overtime. David Figlioli scored two goals; Aaron Gootee one goal and one assist, and Sam Ciccolini-Foley scored in the final minute to send the game into overtime.
Following that very exciting triple-overtime win, the two teams had to play again in the finals.
After trailing 2-0, York rallied with a Going goal in the second period, and then tied the game in the third with Adam Ehrenborg scoring, assisted by Chris Ockerbloom and Sam Ciccolini-Foley.
Dover also won their division in the regular season and the two teams had split in previous games.
The Seacoast team record was 12-6-1, and they received the designations of division and Christmas Tournament champion.
Meanwhile, with a 7 to 2 win over a strong Kennebunk team, the York Middle School team has advanced to the championship game against Cape Elizabeth, scheduled for Tuesday at 6 p.m. at North Yarmouth Academy.
Anthony Figlioli, Shane Hughes and Christian Going had two goals each in the Kennebunk game. Tanner Pidgeon had a goal and an assist while Craig Decato and Thomas Cifrino each added an assist.
In his best game of the year, goalie Alex Ahrikenchihk held off a very skilled group of forwards from Kennebunk with the defensive help of Arran Maran, George Lindbom and Kyle Robinson.
Team play was the key to the win, which was much closer than the score shows. Mike Valeri, Zach Franklin and Tyler Lewis played great games and contributed beyond the score sheet.
The team's record is 14 and 4.
