See "An Inconvenient Truth" and help the environment

By Jennifer L. Saunders

YORK - The York High School Key Club and the school's environmental club, "Gang Green" have banded together to get the community thinking about Earth Day even before it happens.

This year's Earth Day will be observed on April 22, but since that falls during April school vacation, York High School science teacher Libby Bacon explained that the students have been focusing on the first day of spring this week to get the word out about the importance of preserving the environment.

"We are getting started on Earth Day activities next week and will continue through the next month leading up to Earth Day on April 22," Bacon said last week.

The vernal equinox, she explained, "seemed like the next best time to kick off the activities."

The Key Club and Gang Green are hosting showings of Al Gore's acclaimed film on the subject of global warming, "An Inconvenient Truth" every day this week.

Today, Wednesday, March 21, through Friday, the film will be shown at 6 p.m. in room A220 at York High School. Admission is $2 and the funds raised will go to an environmental organization.
