York Rotary helps YCSA with $5,000 donation

By Jennifer L. Saunders

YORK - The Rotary Club has made it a bit easier for the York Community Service Association to help families in need as winter's chilly temperatures have continued to linger into the first days of spring.

Last Friday, March 16, the York Rotary Club presented Tom Carnicelli of the York Community Service Association Board of Directors with a check for $5,000 to help with the association's fund to offset home heating costs for local residents struggling to make ends meet.

"I think they've spent about $25,000 so far this year," said Mary Andrews of the York Rotary Club, speaking of the efforts of YCSA to meet the home heating needs of local residents.

The Rotary Club has donated to YCSA in the past, she explained, and this year the club's youth affiliate, the York High School Interact Club, has helped in multiple ways, including raising about $1,500 to donate to the organization.

The Rotary Club recognizes the need is there, Andrews said, and wanted to help.

In January, YCSA Family Service Director Lorna Ryan acknowledged the help of local residents, businesses and organizations like the Rotary Club in making it possible for the association to provide assistance to residents in the form of donations for fuel, holiday food baskets and gift certificates for Christmas presents.

Donations of used clothing and other items are accepted at the YCSA Thrift Store on Route 1 in Cape Neddick and the proceeds from sales at the store are used to fund the association's assistance programs. Donations are accepted daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Thrift Store Dollar Sale will be held this Saturday, March 24, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Everything in the store will be $1or less. The snow date for the sale is Sunday, March 25.

The store is open year-round, seven days a week, 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. from Monday through Friday, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, with donations accepted daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
