"Being John Malkovich" rounds out Winter Film Festival
YORK VILLAGE - Enjoy a brilliant modern day comic fantasy for April Fool's Day as the York Public Library's Film Festival rounds out its Winter Series with "Being John Malkovich" on Sunday, April 1, at 3 p.m.Craig Schwartz, portrayed by John Cusack, is a struggling street puppeteer looking to make some extra money. He takes a job as a filing clerk on the seventh-and-a-half floor of a large office building, where he accidentally discovers a small door that leads to the center of the mind of actor John Malkovich.
With his beautiful office mate, Maxine, played by Catherine Keener, and with Cameron Diaz as his pet-obsessed wife, they hatch a plan to charge admission to journey inside the head of this well-known actor, opening up a metaphoric "can of worms" as strangers take over Malkovich's mind for a quarter-hour at a time.
Directed by Spike Jonze, the movie won numerous awards and critical acclaim for its original concept, screenplay and the acting by Orson Bean, Cameron Diaz and Mary Kay Place.
The movie is rated R and has a running time of 112 minutes. Admission is free, as is the popcorn. For information, call the library at 363-2818.
