Ongoing and upcoming events at the library

YORK VILLAGE - If you're not heading out of town plan to spend "Spring Break" at the York Public Library.

From April 17 through 20, there will be a variety of programs for children at the library, but space is limited, so sign up early by calling the library at 363-2818.

On April 17 at 10:15 a.m. take part in a special vacation edition of Art by the Pond where children will work with local artist Kathy Carter to discover the nature of watercolors. Children can find delight in learning the character of each color and how it "plays" with another. This parent/child class, appropriate for children age 3 to 5, will use a wet-on-wet technique, so prepare to be messy.

Music instructor Michelle Franey is hosting a special "break week" music class on April 18 at 10:15 a.m. for all children through fourth grade. Guitar, contemporary songs and moving to the beat are big hits with the kids.

Two classes of Yoga for Kids will be held on April 18 from 1 to 1:45 p.m. or 2 to 2:45 p.m. Rae Lynn from Yoga on York offers classes for children in kindergarten through grade 4. Yoga is a whole-body practice that benefits both the body and the mind. For a child to participate, a parent must sign a liability form when they reserve a space in the class.

Do you ever wonder what animals and plants live naturally right outside of your house? Come join White Pine Programs for an hour of exploration around the library and a glimpse into the natural world On April 19 at 1:15 p.m. Check out natural mysteries and play nature awareness games that engage your senses. Please come dressed to be outside. This program is appropriate for children ages 6 to 9 and their parents.

On April 20 at 10:15 a.m., have fun discussing Thomas Rockwell's "How to Eat Fried Worms." In this story, 11-year-old Billy goes up against the school bully in a challenge - to eat 10 worms in one day. Please have your child read the book in advance, and the book discussion will be followed by the movie. Parents are welcome. The movie will be shown at 11:30 a.m.
