Headlines from York and Ogunquit, Maine

CHAMPS OF CREATIVITY! In what has become an annual York School Department tradition, a full slate of teams traveled to the Maine Odyssey of the Mind Competition this past weekend, coming home with super scores and even a state championship - or two. Pictured are members of the four Coastal Ridge Elementary School teams that participated in this year's event at Colby College and "Omer" the Odyssey of the Mind (OM) mascot. Teams also attended from York Middle School and Village Elementary School. For all the details, and photographs of each of the teams, see story.

Three out of the six local teams that traveled to the Maine Odyssey of the Mind Competition this past weekend came home with trophies, and two have earned the rank of state champions. Frustrated by a perceived unwillingness by the Board of Selectmen to understand the merits of a proposed surfing amendment, some residents have now decided to take the matter into their own hands by drafting a petition. What if the Board of Selectmen held a public hearing on the approximately $47 million in proposed funding requests for this year's budget, and nobody came? Fifteen years ago, Folly Pond was considered to be a big teenage party spot. The town of Wells has responded to Ogunquit's $40 million school buyout proposal by asking for more money, a beach parking lot and a delay in the school funding proposal going before the legislature.
