A LOVELY DAY FOR A STROLL. On a recent day, pedestrians - both those with two legs and those with four - enjoyed a stroll through York Harbor and along the Wiggly Bridge as mists rose from the water's surface. With moments of milder weather in recent weeks, the paths and byways of York and Ogunquit have been coming to life with residents and visitors emerging from their homes to enjoy the natural beauty of these communities by the sea.

DAR HONORS GOOD STUDENT CITIZENS. The Old York Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution recently honored six York County high school seniors with good citizen awards, including Emily Quinton of Wells High School and York High School senior Alyson Nelson Cadrin Sweet. At a recent meeting, Old York DAR Regent Shirley Peverly gave a brief history of the chapter, and Ann Siegel, good citizen chairwoman, introduced the students and presented each with a certificate, pin, American flag and a monetary gift from the chapter. Public records from both Maine and Massachusetts show that for at least the past three years Selectman Len Dorrian has been listed by both states as simultaneously filing for homestead exemptions as a permanent resident of York and of Boston. When it comes to a proposal for a new Town Hall, members of the Municipal Building Committee and local residents seem to agree there is no question about the need for the new facility. Band-Aids. Vitamins. Thermometers. Latex gloves. A potential problem with a plan to use existing funds to offset the cost of the proposed York High School music and arts instructional space addition has forced officials to remove the request from the ballot for the upcoming May referendum. With the filing deadline for the May town election set for this Thursday, April 5, several residents have taken out papers as potential candidates for available seats on the Board of Selectmen, School Committee and Budget Committee in the past week. Do you have a child with special needs? Could you decrease your impact on the environment by 10 percent just by making some small changes? It's baby season at the Center for Wildlife, when orphans and injured young ones of all species find a temporary home in the shadow of Mount Agamenticus. Residents living in and around these coastal Maine towns have the opportunity to be screened to reduce the risk of having a stroke. Sen. Peter Bowman, D-York County, who represents York and Ogunquit among several other southern York County towns, has been appointed as a representative of the Maine Senate to serve on the National Conference of State Legislatures' Standing Committee on Education.

Still stinging from the fallout of last week's public hearing, the Board of Selectmen voted 4 to 0 to put the revised amendment to the surf ordinance on the May 19 ballot for voters to decide whether the current surf zone should be expanded another 120 yards during big wave days when an increased number of surfers are in the water.
