Senator Bowman appointed to national educational organization
AUGUSTA - Sen. Peter Bowman, D-York County, who represents York and Ogunquit among several other southern York County towns, has been appointed as a representative of the Maine Senate to serve on the National Conference of State Legislatures' Standing Committee on Education.Maine Senate President Beth Edmonds, D-Cumberland County, made the appointment.
The National Conference of State Legislature (NCSL) is a bipartisan organization that serves all 50legislatures in the United States.
Founded in 1975, the NCSL serves as an advocate and central resource for state policymakers to exchange ideas on the most pressing state issues.
"I am pleased to represent Maine and its interests in education. As Senate chair of the Education Committee in our legislature, I hope to bring a sense of understanding of how much we value education in our state," said Bowman, who has also been appointed to the Council of State Governments/Eastern Regional Conference's Education Committee. "There are numerous pressing issues facing our educational system and much of it comes from the federal level. Therefore, it is important that individual states work together to create one voice."
