Candidates come forward for several town posts

By Jennifer L. Saunders

YORK - With the filing deadline for the May town election set for this Thursday, April 5, several residents have taken out papers as potential candidates for available seats on the Board of Selectmen, School Committee and Budget Committee in the past week.

In addition to Selectman Len Dorrian, who previously had filed his paperwork to see reelection for a three-year term on the board, Kinley Gregg has taken out papers for that same post but had not yet returned her nomination papers as of Tuesday afternoon.

Local residents Edward "Ted" Little, Michael Ehrenborg, Frederick Boardman and James Adams have taken out nomination papers for the two-year post to fill the unexpired term of Selectmen Torbert Macdonald, Jr., who is resigning due to health issues. Only Adams had returned his papers as of press time.

Boardman has also taken out papers for a one-year post on the Budget Committee, but will only return papers for one position or the other, according to a Town Hall spokesperson.

Three seats will be available on the Budget Committee in May: two three-year terms and the one-year term.

As of Tuesday, Boardman had been joined by local residents Robert Palmer and Charles Steedman in taking our papers to consider a Budget Committee post.

For the School Committee, incumbent Mary-Jane Merrill has returned paperwork to seek one of the two three-year terms on the board. Local residents Laurie Coffenberry, Julie E. H. Eneman and Frank Wallace have also taken out nomination papers but they had not been returned as of Tuesday.

Seats on the York Water District Board of Trustees, York Sewer District Board of Trustees and the post held by Town Treasurer Margaret McIntosh are uncontested, with only the incumbent members seeking reelection in May.
