Have your say at new free online forum
By Jennifer L. Saunders
YORK - Whether you have an opinion about surfing on Long Sands Beach, plans for a new Town Hall or the best use of the Town Farm property, you now have a place to share your thoughts with the community at large from the comfort of your own computer. Thanks to York's own UpSurf.net, there's a new community forum available to local residents - with a host of topics already posted and just waiting for a comment or two.
Available, for free, at http://yorkmespeaks.freeforums.org/, the forum is easily accessible to all residents.
The idea, explained Bob Rogers of UpSurf, is for the citizens of York to have an outlet where they may express their opinions on any issue at all.
Created and moderated by Rogers and fellow local resident Howard Koeppel, the forum is open to anyone. Visitors to the site may either enter a reply to an existing issue or create a new topic for others to weigh in on through the site.
Rogers explained that residents may view the issues and responses without having to sign up for the site or to register.
"Should they decide to reply to one of the issues, they would need to fill out a very simple registration form, which they can fill out anonymously if they want to," Rogers said.
The forum provides an outlet for residents who may not be able to attend town meetings, or might not be comfortable speaking out in public, he explained.
"Howard and I will be monitoring the forum so folks don't get too carried away, but we do want everyone to be a part of it," Rogers said.
