Life Line Screening offers local testing day that could save your life
YORK and OGUNQUIT - Residents living in and around these coastal Maine towns have the opportunity to be screened to reduce the risk of having a stroke.Life Line Screening will be at the York-Ogunquit United Methodist Church, located at 1026 Route 1 in York, on April 18. Appointments will begin at 9 a.m. and pre-registration is required.
A stroke, also known as a "brain attack," is ranked as the third leading killer in the world, and the second among women. Through preventive screenings, the risk of having a stroke can be greatly reduced.
Screenings are fast, painless and low cost. They involve the use of ultrasound technology, and scan for potential health problems related to blocked arteries, which can lead to a stroke; aortic aneurysms, which can lead to a ruptured aorta, and hardening of the arteries in the legs, which are a strong predictor or heart disease.
Also offered, for men and women, is a bone density screening to assess the risk for osteoporosis.
"I was asymptomatic so I can only guess at what the outcome might have been if I had not responded," John Brady of South Portland said of his experience with Life Line Screening.
All four screenings take less than an hour to complete. A complete wellness package - including the Stroke/Carotid Artery, Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm, Ankle Brachial Index for hardening of the arteries and Osteoporosis screenings - is only $129, which represents a savings of $41 on all four tests.
Life Line Screening was established in 1993 and has since become the nation's leading provider of vascular screenings. Over 85 ultrasound teams are on staff to travel to local communities, bringing the screenings to you. These non-invasive, inexpensive and painless ultrasound tests help people identify their risk for stroke, vascular diseases or osteoporosis early enough for their physician to begin preventive procedures.
