OGUNQUIT - The Ogunquit Chamber of Commerce's Annual Patriots Day Celebration will have an added twist this year as the much-anticipated pAWSitively Ogunquit pets are unveiled.
The Patriots Day Weekend Celebration will be held on Saturday and Sunday, April 14 and 15, including a craft show, restaurant tastings, children's amusements, entertainment and much more, according to the Ogunquit Chamber of Commerce.
And the unveiling of the pAWSitively Ogunquit animals makes the beginning of the chamber's 2007 Public Art Project.
The pAWSitively Ogunquit event is a partnership of the Animal Welfare Society (AWS) of Kennebunk and the Ogunquit Chamber of Commerce in a year-long art project featuring specially decorated sculptures of cats and dogs.
The project actually got underway during the 2006 OgunquitFest celebration back in the fall, and will culminate with a live auction at OgunquitFest 2007.
For pAWSitively Ogunquit, fiberglass figures of favorite pets have been purchased with sponsorships sold to businesses and residents.
Artists and crafters have been found to use a stipend to decorate or paint each cat and dog. These colorful canines and festive felines will now be on display from the Patriots Day celebration through the summer season at each sponsor's business or residence. In the fall, these special pieces of art will be offered at auction during OgunquitFest.
