Local teen to play for N.H. Junior Monarchs

CAPE NEDDICK - Russ Franey has signed on to play for the Junior New Hampshire Monarchs next year after a standout four-year career at Berwick Academy.

In his final year playing for the Berwick Academy Bulldogs, Russ was the team captain, MVP and team high scorer as a defenseman with 33 points.

For the past two years, Russ has played on the All New England Prep School first team and is a two-time Holt Conference first team player.

Russ received the Senior Leadership Award from Hockey Night in Boston, Mass., for leadership on and off the ice. More recently, Russ returned from playing at the USA Hockey Tier 1 National Championship.

Russ is the son of Myles and Claire Franey of Cape Neddick, and attends Berwick Academy.

Founded in 1791, Berwick Academy is an independent, coeducational country day school located in South Berwick. For over 200 years, the academy has pursued its mission through a purposeful blend of strong academics, arts and athletics.

Berwick serves over 600 students in kindergarten through grade 12 from the Seacoast area of southern Maine and New Hampshire.
