April storm causes power outages, tree limb damage
By Melissa Wood
YORK - Heavy snow brought by an April storm caused residents throughout York to lose power on Thursday, April 5, as downed tree branches felled electrical wires and closed roads."Some didn't get back on until Saturday night," said York Police Sgt. Thomas Baran of the power outages.
Those without power included the police station, which operated on a generator while members of the Police Department hit the streets to close roads and respond to the many reports of limbs and wires down.
The town's fire departments also stood by in cases of fallen wires until Central Maine Power could respond.
"It was busy there for quite a while," said Baran, who said that some roads were completely blocked by tree limbs.
Although it was a messy day, Baran said there were no injuries and no substantial damages.
Car accidents included a sport utility vehicle sliding off Scituate Road and striking two mailboxes, and another sport utility vehicle that rolled over onto the passenger side on Cider Hill Road.
