Sentry Hill at York Harbor celebrates National Volunteer Week

YORK HARBOR - Volunteers at Sentry Hill in York will be honored today, Wednesday, April 18, at the Second Annual Volunteer Recognition Breakfast.

National Volunteer Week began on April 15 and continues through April 21 and Sentry Hill averages about 15 to 20 volunteer hours per week and over 2,000 hours per year.

Local churches provide Sentry Hill residents with spiritual guidance while school organizations provide social interaction and intergenerational experiences and individual volunteers provide support, stimulation and friendship to the members of this community.

The volunteers of Sentry Hill share their time and talent with immeasurable generosity and selflessness.

As a thank-you for their services, each volunteer will be presented with a small gift, a volunteer pin and raffles, which will be drawn throughout the breakfast.

Nancy Winograd of York has been hard at work developing a special volunteer group for the memory impaired unit at Sentry Hill to provide one-to-one social interaction for these residents.

Winograd is scheduled to speak at the volunteer breakfast about her new program.

As she put it, "the volunteers of Sentry Hill play an important role in the lives of the people who live in this community."

By developing this program it is her hope that others will see the importance and benefits of volunteering. If you would like more information or want to join this group please call her at 363-2612 before May 24.
