Gloria Winslow
She was born Jan. 14, 1930, in Casco, the daughter of Warren and Inez (Knight) Tenney. She graduated from Deering High School in 1948 and attended the University of Florida in Gainesville. She had worked for the Van Telephone Co. in Bethel.
She married Lawrence "John" Winslow and, while raising her family, she was a substitute teacher in the Bethel school system. She had also worked as a receptionist at CMP.
In 1982 she relocated to York to be near her daughter. Before her retirement she worked as a live-in companion for the elderly. After her retirement she lived at Yorkshire Commons for 14 years. She had volunteered at York Hospital and York Community Thrift Shop.
She leaves a daughter, Lorna F. Ryan and her husband, Thomas Ryan, of York; two sons, Lawrence "Larry" Winslow of Augusta and Peter Winslow and his wife, Michelle Winslow, of New Sharon; three brothers, Franklin Tenney and his wife, Gertie Tenney, of Gainseville, Fla., Melvin Tenney and his wife, Jeannie Tenney, of Naples, Maine, and Marshall Tenney of Portland; two sisters, Frances Hunt and her husband, Richard Hunt, of Forestville, Conn., and Emma Grant of Windham; six grandchildren, Kyle H. Ryan and his wife, Wendy, of Rochester, N.H., Kerry T. Ryan and Melanie D. Ryan, both of York, and Janna, Jared and John Curtis Winslow of New Sharon, and two great-grandchildren, Matthew and Emma Ryan of Rochester, N.H.
Three brothers, Guy, Arnold and Elton Tenney, and two sisters, Arlene Smith and Beulah Frank, predeceased her.
The funeral home service for Mrs. Winslow was held April 14 in the Lucas & Eaton Funeral Home with burial in the First Parish Cemetery, York.
