York County Kennel Club offers Antiques Appraisal Day on April 21
OGUNQUIT - York County Kennel Club of Maine, Inc., has invited two Skinners Auction appraisers to its first-ever Antiques Appraisal Day, set for this Saturday, April 21.The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Wells Elementary School in Wells and members of the public are invited to bring their treasures and find out how much they're worth.
The cost of appraising is $10 per item and $25 for three items, with three items maximum per person.
This is a first-come, first-served event with no pre-registration. So the Kennel Club invited antique fans to mark their calendars and arrive early, sign in and get their numbers to wait for a turn.
With the popularity of antiques in the area - and in New England as a whole - this event is expected to draw a full house.
The Skinner appraisers will appraise virtually all collecting areas including porcelain, pottery, dishes, toys, silver, paintings, furniture and even rugs. However, organizers request no coins, stamps, jewelry and musical instruments.
For services of china or silver, one piece in the set and a list of the total items in the set is acceptable. For large pieces of furniture, several clear photos may be submitted for appraisal.
Each participant will get one semi-private session with the appraiser. The appraiser will provide a verbal value based on current market prices for similar pieces. If participants are interested in selling their treasures they must contact Skinner or another antique auction house directly, not York County Kennel Club.
While waiting, attendees may browse through York County Kennel Club's canine-related literature - including material on responsible dog ownership as well as various activities dog owners can participate in with their canine companions.\
Kennel Club members will be around to answer questions regarding dogs, dog-related events and the York County Kennel Club itself.
Wells Elementary School staff will provide refreshments during the day.
York County Kennel Club of Maine, Inc., is an American Kennel Club-licensed club that holds dog-related events throughout the year. Proceeds from the Antique Appraisal Day will be used to fund the annual dog show.
