OGUNQUIT - There is much excitement and buzz, and with good reason, in anticipation of the very first Elizabeth Dunaway Burnham Memorial Piano Festival this week.

The event, which organizers promise will become an annual tradition, will be held at the Dunaway Center on April 19 through 22.

The renowned duo piano team of Leslie Amper and Randall Hodgkinson will lead off the festival this Thursday, April 19, with an exciting program ranging from the Mozart Sonata in F to Franz Schubert's Fantasy in F minor, from "The Dolly Suite" by Gabriel Fauré to George Gershwin's "Rhapsody in Blue."

The second evening will feature E. Martin Perry performing an evening of music, including C.P.E. Bach's Sonata in A minor and Rondo in E major, Haydn's Sonata in E flat, Mozart's 10 Variations on an Air of Gluck and Rondo in A Minor, and finishing with the Fantasia in C Major by Haydn. These will be performed on a replica of the fortepiano used by Ludwig van Beethoven.

The final evening - but not the final event - will feature waltzes: Schubert's Waltzes Nobles, Chopin's Waltz Brilliante in A flat Major, the Valse Oublie by Franz Liszt, December from "The Seasons" by Peter Tchaikovsky and concluding with Maurice Ravel's Valses Nobles et Sentimenta, vigorously performed by the acclaimed Russian Pianist Irina Nuzova.

The last event, in honor of the memory of Elizabeth Dunaway Burnham, will be an afternoon of recitals by the best of the area's young and upcoming student pianists on Sunday, April 22, at 3p.m.

The concerts, except for the Friday fortepiano concert, will be performed on Ogunquit Performing Arts' Steinway C concert grand piano.

All events will be held at the Dunaway Center, located at 23 School St. in Ogunquit.

The Thursday, Friday and Saturday performances will begin at 8 p.m. The student recital on Sunday will be held at 3 p.m.

Tickets for the first three concerts are $14 in advance, $16 at the door with free admissions for students ages 18 and under. Admission for the full series is $35.

The Sunday concert is free admission for all.

Tickets are available at the Ogunquit Camera Shop, The Dunaway Center and the Ogunquit Welcome Center, or call 646-6170.
