Appeals Board postpones hearing on restaurant, Witham appeal
By Melissa Wood
YORK - Due to two absences, the Appeals Board had to postpone its public hearing on Wednesday, April 11.Planning Board Chairman Michael Swant told members of the audience - who were gearing up for hearings on the Mill Pond Road abutters' appeal of the shoreland permit granted to Frank Witham and Brian Cribby's request for a Mainiax Café at York Village Business Center on Route 1 - that the board did not have enough members to form a quorum in order to make a legal vote on the two matters.
"The meeting will be postponed until the next scheduled time slot, which is April 25," said Swant.
Appeals Board member Gene Sullivan, who was on vacation, had notified the board of his intention not to attend the meeting. However, member Joseph Carr was unexpectedly absent and unable to be reached before the meeting.
Swant added that the Appeals Board is currently seeking two alternate members, and made a public plea that anyone interested in the role is welcome to apply.
He said that if the board currently had two alternate members, Wednesday's meeting might have been able to go on as scheduled.
