My Sister's Closet celebrates opening
By Melissa Wood
Tammy Dauth shows off some of the many pieces of gently-worn clothing and accessories for sale at her new boutique, My Sister's Closet, located on Route 1 across from Anthony's Food Shop. The resale boutique celebrated its grand opening on Friday, April 20, and will be open seven days a week this summer.

That's the beauty of the resale store My Sister's Closet on Route 1 across from Anthony's Food Shop. With brands that include Ralph Lauren, Perry Ellis, Mameko and Neiman Marcus, you can indulge in something special or splurge on a new outfit without feeling guilty about breaking the bank.
"I think every woman is beautiful and deserves to feel beautiful," said owner Tammy Dauth, who opened the store on April 20 after 10 years in the real estate business.
She said the name came from the idea that shopping at her store is kind of like getting a chance to raid your sister's closet all over again - something she did to her older sister when she was a kid.
"I was a blue jeans girl," said Dauth. "Whenever I needed something really nice, I went to my sister's closet."
The store carries both casual and formal clothing, such as little cotton dresses, dress suits, scarves and all sorts of accessories, including a Plinio Visona purse made of Italian leather. Dauth said the store is also a tribute to her late mother-in-law, who said in her high school yearbook that her dream was to open a dress shop.
She said her daughter Elizabeth, a sophomore at Johnson State in Vermont, whose own closet is raided by younger sister Danielle, a York High School senior, gave her approval after going through the racks.
"She said, oh that's nice, I would wear this, my friend would wear that," Dauth said.
Dauth said she buys everything outright and tries to find a variety of clothing that will appeal to both young and old.
She said after having only one advertisement in her local newspaper, The Independent, the response has been overwhelming with friends telling friends the news.
Anything that doesn't sell will be donated to York Community Service Association's Thrift Shop, "so the money stays in the community," said Dauth, who used to volunteer at the store.
Dauth said that so far she's heard a lot of "sister's closet" stories and that she welcomes anyone to come by the store to check it out and let her know what they think.
My Sister's Closet is located at 674 Route 1 and is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Sundays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The store is also accepting appointments to buy men's and women's spring and summer attire for teens through adults. Clothing must be clean and folded.
