YORK VILLAGE - There's never a dull moment at the York Public Library.

AFTER SCHOOL IS COOL

On Thursday, April 26, from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m., come to the library for an hour of Lego Building or Knitting for Kids. Please register by calling the library at 363-2818. Bring your own Legos and/or knitting supplies and come enjoy creative library time. Siblings are also welcome. This program is for children ages 6 and up.

COMING IN MAY

Mike Harris, technology integration specialist the York Schools, will be offering a three-week reading series in May designed especially for boys between the ages of 7 and 10. During these sessions, participants will have a chance to read a book and then act and star in their own movie. Sessions will take place from 4 to 5 p.m. on May 1, 8 and15. Space is limited. Call 363-2818 to reserve a place.

On Friday, May 4, at 7 p.m., local author Kevin Belmonte will discuss the writing of his recent biography of William Wilberforce, a British politician and philanthropist who led the parliamentary campaign against the slave trade in the 19th century. Belmonte is also the lead historian for the recently released movie about William Wilberforce called "Amazing Grace."

Take part in the Citizen Scientist Survey for the detection of hemlock woolly adelgid on Saturday, May 5, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. This full-day workshop given by the Maine Forest Service is for members of the community who are interested in completing an annual survey for the presence of hemlock woolly adelgid in an adopted hemlock stand. The survey is done at the convenience of the individual volunteer, and would take approximately one half to one full day in the hemlock stand each year. Participation is limited to 30 people and pre-registration is required. The deadline for registration is May 2. For more information, contact Allison Kanoti at 287-3147.

WRITERS NIGHT

On Thursday, May 17, at 7 p.m., local writers Katharine Davis, author of "Capturing Paris," and Cheryl Drake Harris, author of "Lily's Ghost," will talk about the art of writing a novel and the spirit that energizes the process.

LIVE AT THE LIBRARY

On Sunday, May 20, from 4 to 6 p.m. join us for a Coffee House Concert featuring local musicians Curt Bessette, Neil Zweig, Doug Bennett and Stephen Bracciotti. This is the first in a series of live musical events.

IN THE CHILDREN'S ROOM

Weekly programs for children at the York Public Library include Miss Kate's Infant Lap, Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m.; Preschool Story Time, Thursdays at 10:30 a.m., and Toddler Story Time, Fridays at 10:30 a.m. Monthly programs for children and parents include Making Music Monthly, the first Wednesday of each month from 10:15 to10:45 a.m.; Tactile Toddler Time, the second Tuesday of each month from 10:15 to 10:45 a.m.; Babies, Boppies and Books, the second Thursday of each month from 10:15 to 11 a.m., and Art by the Pond, the third Tuesday of each month, from 10:15 to 11 a.m.

ART AT THE LIBRARY

Todd Bezold and Michael Walek, both of York, are celebrating the arrival of spring with a joint exhibition of paintings at the York Public Library through May 31. Both artists draw inspiration from the natural world, preferring to paint from life whenever and wherever possible.

For the month of April, watercolors and pastels by Donna Sabaka of the York Art Association will be on display in the Kennebunk Room.
