Lady Warriors shut out Lady 'Cats, 12-0

By Stan Ross

YORK - The Lady Wildcat softball team traveled to Wells to open its season on Monday, April 23, but "left their bats at home."

Beth Stone (2-1) pitched a five-inning no-hitter for Wells while striking out five and not walking a single batter.

York Head Coach Lynne Michaud said, "We had a rough game. It was our first outing and we made seven errors."

Jolene Ciampa started on the mound for York and Linnie Blais came on in relief. Gwen Swanson did the catching.

Wells tallied four runs in the first, five in the second and three in the third.

The game was called after five innings by the 12-run "mercy rule."

York will look to rebound when they play at Lake Region today, Wednesday, April 25, and host Traip Academy on Thursday, April 26, in a makeup game.

The Lady Wildcats will host Gray-New Gloucester next Monday, April 30.

All games begin at 4 p.m.
