York patrolman will truly be missed

By Melissa Wood

YORK - The York Police Department said goodbye to a man who has been described as a "great community police officer" when Patrolman Jason Guthrie resigned to relocate to Florida with his family.

The move was necessitated by Guthrie's wife accepting a position as an executive at Chico's, a national retailer of casual, upscale women's apparel.

Guthrie, whose last day was Friday, plans to be a stay-at-home dad.

He began working with the Police Department in August of 2003, initially as a health resource officer for six months and then as patrol officer.

Sgt. Thomas Baran said Guthrie fit in very well with the department and described him as very approachable.

"He was just an outstanding officer," said Baran.

Guthrie's connection to the community extended beyond his role as a police officer. He served as commissioner of the York Little League program and coached basketball for the York Recreation Department.

"He's just a very personable person," said Baran, adding that although the department wishes him the best as he starts a new chapter in his life, "He truly will be missed."
