"Heavenly" concert to be held next weekend

YORK - The Seacoast Community Chorus will present "A Heavenly Spring Concert" at next weekend.

The concert will be held at 8 p.m. on Friday, May 18, at Christ Church in Kennebunk, and again at 3 p.m. on Sunday, May 20, at First Parish Church in York.

The featured work for the concert is John Rutter's "Requiem," performed with full accompaniment.

Additional works to be presented include spirituals by André Thomas and Hall Johnson as well as Daniel Pinkham's "The Saints Preserve Us."

Now in his 13th year with the chorus, Wendell S. Purrington, conductor, selected the "Requiem" in preparation for chorus members' trip to New York over Memorial Day, where they will perform the work on stage at Carnegie Hall under the direction of Rutter himself.

In addition to this tour, the chorus is planning a singing tour to Vienna, Budapest and Prague in 2008.

The Seacoast Community Chorus, a 60-member, non-auditioned, mixed-voice chorus, presents two concerts a year, one in January and the other in May.

New members are welcomed at the beginning of each singing semester and people interested in participating in the 2008 tour as singers are encouraged to contact Barbara Kautz, president of the chorus, at 475-2159.

Tickets for the upcoming concerts may be purchased in advance from members of the chorus and at York Flower Shop for $8. Tickets at the door are $10. For more information, please call 475-2159.
