Ongoing and upcoming events at the library
YORK VILLAGE - Here are just a few of the things to do in the weeks ahead at the York Public Library.
WRITERS' NIGHT
On Thursday, May 17, at 7 p.m., local writers Katharine Davis, author of "Capturing Paris," and Cheryl Drake Harris, author of "Lily's Ghost," will talk about the art of writing a novel and the spirit that energizes the process.
LIVE AT THE LIBRARY
On Sunday, May 20, from 4 to 6 p.m., enjoy a Coffee House Concert featuring local musicians Curt Bessette, Neil Zweig, Doug Bennett and Stephen Bracciotti. This is the first in a series of live musical events, with a second scheduled for July 28.
IN THE CHILDREN'S ROOM
Weekly programs for children at the York Public Library include Miss Kate's Infant Lap, Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m., with the last program until the autumn on May 29; Preschool Story Time, Thursdays at 10:30 a.m., with the last program until the autumn on May 31, and Toddler Story Time, Fridays at 10:30 a.m. Monthly programs for children and parents, held October through May, include Making Music Monthly, the first Wednesday of each month from 10:15 to10:45 a.m.; Tactile Toddler Time, the second Tuesday of each month from 10:15 to 10:45 a.m.; Babies, Boppies and Books, the second Thursday of each month from 10:15 to 11 a.m., and Art by the Pond, the third Tuesday of each month, from 10:15 to 11 a.m.
SPOTLIGHTED PROGRAMS
On Thursday, May, 10, from 10:15 to 11 a.m., Babies Boppies and Books, a book group for mothers with babies under one year old, will focus on "The Lovely Bones" by Alice Sebold. The group is open to new members on a continuing basis.
On Tuesday, May 15, from 10:15 to 11 a.m., local artist Jean Lincoln will be hosting Art by the Pond. The children will be painting a family birdhouse using acrylic paint. Wear "painting" clothes; this project could get messy! This is the last Art by the Pond program of this season and is for children ages 3 to 6.
ART AT THE LIBRARY
Todd Bezold and Michael Walek, both of York, are celebrating the arrival of spring with a joint exhibition of paintings at the York Public Library through May 31. Both artists draw inspiration from the natural world, preferring to paint from life whenever and wherever possible.
York Art Association member Louise M. Whelton exhibits her watercolors of barns and birds in the Kennebunk Room for the month of May.
