Tough week for Lady Wildcats’ softball

By Stan Ross

YORK - On Friday, May 4, the York Lady Wildcats (1-5) traveled to Cape Elizabeth to face the always tough, undefeated Lady Capers (6-0)  and suffered their fourth road loss.

The Lady Wildcats are 1-1 at home but winless, 0-4, on the road this season.

Lissy Enright and Jolene Ciampa shared the pitching duties for York while Glenn Swanson handled the catching chores.

The Lady Capers raced to an early lead with three runs in the first and seven in the third and the Lady Wildcats fought back with single runs in the third and fourth, but it was too little, too late as Cape rebounded with four more runs and won 14 to 2 in a game shortened to five innings by the 12-run "mercy" rule.

Last Wednesday, May 2, the York Lady Wildcats journeyed to Freeport to face the Lady Falcons and played one of their better games, but still came out on the short end of a 3 to 1 score.

The Lady Wildcats out-hit the Falcons 7 to 5, but Freeport scored two runs in the first and one in the fourth while holding York to a single run in the third.

Becky Enright doubled for York and Linnie Blais did the pitching.

Last Tuesday., May 1, in a make-up of Monday's rain-out, the Lady Wildcats lost to the GNG Lady Patriots,12 to 1.

Next on the schedule are four straight home games starting with Greely, today, Wednesday, May 9, Poland on Friday, May 11, then Traip again next Tuesday, May 15, and Old Orchard next Wednesday, May 16.
