Local resident elected vice chairman of SIS board of directors

CAPE NEDDICK - Mark Mickeriz, president and CEO of Sanford Institution for Savings, has announced the election of the new board chairman and board vice chairman.

At a special meeting held in late March, the board elected Barbara Low as chairman, and James Shirley as vice chairman.

Low is the first woman to hold the position of chairman in the bank's history.

Low joined the bank's board of directors in 2001. She attended the University of New England and the University of Maine, where she earned her degree in business administration. In 1996, she joined her family business, Low's Variety Store, as treasurer.

Low has served as the program director for Junior Achievement and is a past president of the Bonny Eagle Jaycees. She currently serves on the board of directors of the York County Community College Foundation and resides in Hollis.

James Shirley

Shirley joined the SIS board of directors in 1977. He is an attorney and partner in his law firm of Roberts & Shirley, in Springvale.

A graduate of Boston College and Boston College School of Law, Shirley is a former chairman of the Sanford Board of Selectman, past president of the Sanford-Springvale Rotary Club, former district attorney and former first lieutenant in the Maine Army National Guard.

He currently serves as a director of the York County Community College Foundation and is a resident of Cape Neddick.
