OGUNQUIT - With bluegrass and old-time country music featuring John Roc and Freewheelin' and an array of musical competitors, there is no better place to be for fans of the fiddle than at the Ogunquit Performing Arts Seventh Annual International Fiddlers' Contest this Saturday.
The event, set for May 19, will be held at the Dunaway Center, and will begin at 7:30 p.m.
As it has done for the past six years, OPA will bring together outstanding fiddlers of New England and Canada for a fiddlers' contest and jamboree. Additionally, the audience will be entertained with interludes of bluegrass and old-time country music from Roc and his acclaimed band, with Gary Fisher on bass, Earl Oliver on guitar and lead vocals and Larry Neu on banjo and harmony vocals.
"This is definitely a double-header of music not to be missed and if you like old time fiddlin' you will be hard pressed to find a more exciting group of fiddlers who will be competing for significant cash prizes," Stuart Nudelman of OPA noted in the announcement of this upcoming event.
Community sponsors for the event include Life Family Chiropractic Center in Wells; Animal Instinct in Ogunquit; Mike's Clam Shack in Wells; Ogunquit Insurance in Ogunquit, and Swamp John's Fine Art Jewelry of Perkins Cove.
Tickets are $13 advance or $15 at the door and there is plenty of free parking available. Advance tickets are available at the Dunaway Center, Ogunquit Camera Shop and Ogunquit Welcome Center. To make a reservation or for more information, call OPA at 646-6170.
