Racing for a cure

YORK - The Second Dragon Slayer 6K Road Race will be held this Sunday, May 20.

The race is the brainchild of York High School student Katie Prouty, who founded the event last year with the help of her family and friends, to raise funds for the American Liver Foundation of New England and its efforts to find a cure for Hepatitis C.

"My father has Hepatitis C and it has impacted our family's life greatly in a negative way," Katie wrote of the inspiration for this event. "In our country there are approximately four million people with Hepatitis C and only about one million people know about it. The disease is spreading and it needs to be stopped."
According to the race website, http://www.drangonslayer6k.org/, the event raised over $5,000 for the American Liver Foundation of New England in its inaugural year.

This year's race will begin at 10 a.m. at York high School and registration is accepted the day of the race. Entry frees are $12 in advance and $15 on race day.
