YORK - The weather was fine but the bats were cold as the York Lady Wildcats (1-8) suffered another five-inning, shutout loss, to a strong opponent.

Monday, May 14, the Poland Area Regional Lady Knights (4-7) added another win as they are fighting for a playoff position. The final score was 13 to 0.

Jolene Ciampa and Lissie Blais did the pitching for York and Glenn Swanson handled the catching. But the Poland hitting trio of Nicole Chinnock with two triples, Courtney Gray with three hits and Kathryn Hall with a three-RBI homer was too much for the Wildcats.

The Lady Wildcats had been struggling on the road and hoped to turn things around with a home game last Wednesday, May 9, but the top-rated Greely Rangers (7-2) were too tough.

Greely put York in a deep hole with nine runs in the first, but the Lady Wildcats scrapped back with five in their half.

York Coach Lynne Michaud used three pitchers, Becky Enright, Blais and Ciampa, but Greely combined 10 hits with 17 walks and six errors to score 24 runs in five innings and shut down the Wildcats by the final score of 24 to 5.

Last Monday, May 7, the Lady Wildcats lost another five-inning game at Yarmouth.

The Wildcats hope to turn their season around with a home game this afternoon, May 16, against Old Orchard and then a road game on Friday, May 18, at Fryeburg, followed by a home game against Falmouth, next Monday, May 21.
