Old York Garden Club's annual plant sale is Saturday
By Virginia L. Woodwell
YORK - Don't miss the annual Old York Garden Club's plant sale, scheduled for Saturday, May 19, at the Grant House on Route 1 from 9 a.m. to noon.
Hundreds of plants, mostly perennial flowering species grown in club members' gardens, select garden ornaments and plants from local nurseries will be available for sale at bargain prices.
Also included at the site will be a silent auction of rare and unusual plants.
Money raised at the plant sale goes primarily to a scholarship fund for students pursuing a career in horticulture or a related field. The Old York Garden Club gives thousands of dollars annually to this cause, more than any other club in the state of Maine
In addition, with the proceeds from the annual sale the club has also contributed to the York Rivers Association, Master Gardeners Program, Old York Historical Society Children's Summer Programs, York Land Trust and the Lyle Littlefield Foundation.
Money raised also helps the club plant and maintain the public traffic islands throughout York.
So before or after you vote at Saturday's York town election, stop by the Grant House for something special to beautify your garden or yard.
The event will be held rain or shine, and there is plenty of free parking.
