Simpson indicted on four felony counts
By Melissa Wood
YORK - On Friday, May 11, a York County Superior Court grand jury indicted former local business manager Patrick Simpson, on four felony counts from an incident in January when he allegedly held two men at gunpoint outside his home.
Simpson, 39, has a last known address of 75 York St., although that property has recently been listed for sale.
According to York Police Capt. Kevin LeConte, Simpson has been indicted on two counts each of criminal threatening and criminal restraint with a firearm and faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison.
LeConte said Simpson will probably be arraigned sometime in July.
The charges are not related to a prior incident - the shooting of Simpson and a small fire at the York Beach business Simpson managed, which occurred on Jan. 16. Instead, they stem from an incident that happened one week later, on Jan. 23, when Simpson was arrested for holding Casimer Efthimiou, 24, and Chad Spencer, 25, both of York, at gunpoint in the driveway of his York Street residence.
According to police, Efthimiou and Spencer were driving by Simpson's house that night when their vehicle struck a realty sign in the road. They stopped, picked up the sign and brought it to the door of Simpson's house to report the damage. When no one answered the door, they began walking back to their car, according to police reports, and Simpson then came out from behind the house pointing a gun at the two men.
LeConte said the grand jury indicted Simpson on four felony counts because he has been charged with one count of the two charges for each man. An indictment is not an indication of guilt; rather, it means a grand jury has determined there is sufficient evidence to move forward with a trial.
Simpson has been held at York County Jail since March 12 when police arrested him for violation of conditions of release after conducting a bail conditions check at his property and finding a .40-caliber semi-automatic firearm and a .45-caliber semi-automatic firearm. Simpson's bail conditions included not possessing any weapons.
Police are still investigating the Jan. 16 shooting and fire, and have confirmed the two York men had no connection to that incident.
