Fitness classes now enrolling

YORK - Heidi Oliver, ACSM certified health/fitness instructor, will be offering an outdoor circuit training class and women's beginning weight training class starting this June.

The circuit class will feature aerobic exercise in the form of walking, running and games coupled with resistance training utilizing tubes, weights and body weight exercises.

"The idea of the class is to get a full-body workout outside of the traditional gym setting," Oliver said, "and have fun in the process."

There will be a total of three sessions running for three weeks each through the summer. Classes begin June 5 and will be held on Tuesday and/or Thursday mornings at 6:15 a.m. for one hour

The weight training class will focus on the basics of how to lift, what to lift and when to lift. This course will cover technique of how to use machines and free weights with an emphasis on prevention of osteoporosis, muscular strength and toning and will give the beginner an opportunity to learn and practice to gain familiarity and the confidence to work out in a gym alone.

"So many women feel threatened when they come into the gym, so I want to provide them with a safe, comfortable environment," Oliver said.

The class will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays at the York Fitness Center beginning June 4 at either 10 a.m. or 5:30 p.m.

Oliver, the owner of Fitness Horizons, has a background in physical education, personal training and 15 years of athletic coaching experience.

"My background allows me to combine elements of education along with sport training to give participants the best workout in the least amount of time," she explained.

Oliver holds a Master's degree in exercise sciences and maintains CPR certification.
