Calendar Raffle to benefit the Melanoma Education Foundation is seeking volunteers to sell tickets and distribute skin cancer literature outside of stores on Fridays and Saturdays from May 25 to June 30. Volunteers must be at least 18 years old and will work in pairs. The raffle supports skin cancer teacher-training and student materials in New England schools. Old York Garden Club's "16 Sundays in the Garden" begins May 27 at the home of Eleanor Todd at 105 River Road in Cape Neddick. A magnificent rock garden is the central focus of this landscape featuring early spring blooms with a nice mix of annuals and perennials. From I-95 take Exit 7 and follow the Spur Road toward Route 1 and take a left at the light and head north. Follow Route 1 to Cape Neddick and turn right onto River Road (Pie in the Sky Bakery is on the corner). Follow River Road east to the third house on the right after the bridge. The tours will be on Sunday afternoons from noon to 4 p.m. through Sept. 9. The fee is $3 per garden, payable at the door of the individual garden on the day of the tour, and all proceeds benefit the club's various civic development projects.

The Science and Solutions of Global Climate Change will be held at the Wells Public Library on May 29, from 6:30 to 8 p.m., including a live presentation of the famous slide show given in the documentary film, "An Inconvenient Truth." The presentation is bipartisan in nature and is appropriate for children age 10 and up when accompanied by an adult. In addition to the slide show, Ray Sirois will share updated information on this topic. Ray is one of 1,000 individuals trained to give this presentation and has presented to a variety of groups.  Refreshments will be served.  Please bring your own mug! "Wild Acadia" is Jerry and Marcy Monkman's stunning full-color photographic and prose tribute to the spectacular shorelines, forests and distinctive granite domes of Maine's awe-inspiring Acadia National Park. This event will occur June 7 at 7 p.m. at River Run Bookstore, 7 Commercial Alley, Portsmouth, N.H. FMI: (603) 431-2100.

EXHIBITS, MUSIC, THEATRE AND MORE

"The Full Monty" will be performed by the Portland Players, under the direction of New York City director and choreographer Joyce Presutti. The show runs through June 3 and is for mature audiences. FMI: 799-7337 or http://www.portlandplayers.org/.

G. Marshall Store Gallery features "Momentum V," an exhibition of the 2006 New Hampshire Charitable Foundation's Piscataqua Region Artist Advancement grantee, Barbara Rita Jenny, and six finalists, Daisy Adams, Tim Christensen-Kirby, Kristina Logan, Gail Spaien, Carol Stein and Cappy Whelan through June 3. In the Dock Level Gallery, "Al Jaeger:  Ceramic Landscapes" features organic forms, spare use of glazes and washes, and the textures created by using sand, gravel or coffee grounds to convey the artist's love and respect for his natural surroundings. The Music Hall presents "A Celebration of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" on July 20 at 10:30 p.m. Tickets are on sale now, and the late evening festivities include wizard games, costume contests, a dramatic reading and other magical surprises staged in the historic Victorian theatre. SummerFilm 2007 will offer 25 films from June 1 to July 31, including the very best from independent and foreign cinema. This year, the unique Wednesday series will feature extraordinary foreign films selected from the 50th anniversary of Janus Films, the preeminent U.S. distributor of foreign and classic films. No film will show for more than three days and tickets will be available 30 minutes before the show for $8. Historic tours behind-the-scenes in the Music Hall's historic 1878 theatre, the second oldest in New England, will be held on Fridays in June at 2 p.m. Tickets are $6 and $5 for members, and all net proceeds contribute to Music Hall restoration projects. Pastel Painters of Maine International Juried Exhibition will be held in the Heartwood College Gallery from June 4 through 30, with an opening reception June 15 from 5 to 7 p.m. featuring work by pastel artists throughout the United States and Canada. WORKSHOPS

Design for a Long Season of Bloom at Green Art in Kittery will focus on the longest blooming perennials, how to choose plants to stagger the bloom season and high-impact garden plants. Essentials of College Planning Workshops from the Maine Educational Opportunity Center will be offered May 31 at 6 p.m. at University College at the Sanford Center, 21 Bradeen St., Suite 201, Springvale, with MEOC Advisor: Tina McDonald. The Forest of Maine Teachers' Tours still has openings for this summer. Renewable energy from Maine forests and mills and bioproducts and biofuels will be the focus of this years tours. A Project Learning Tree Workshop will be offered on each tour, with Maine Forest Service Biometrician Ken Laustsen leading a discussion on meeting society's needs for materials, chemicals and fuels through research and development of bioproducts from Maine's forests. Educators will tour renewable energy and wood products facilities, visit active harvests using modern equipment and discuss the information and planning required to practice sustainable forestry with landowners, foresters, loggers, mill owners and scientists. CLUBS AND ORGANIZATIONS

Catapult is the Seacoast's first networking group specifically dedicated to young professionals. Catapult is a nonprofit organization, and membership is free. FMI: www.catapultseacoast.org.

Domestic Abuse Helpline for Men and Women, a nationally known non-profit organization, is looking for volunteers to assist victims of intimate partner violence. Volunteers are needed to cover the organization's toll-free crisis line and ull training is offered. You may answer calls right from your home on weekdays, nights, weekends and/or holidays. The training is 40 hours and will consist of online and teleconferencing sessions. Volunteers must have access to a computer with an Internet connection. Home Schooling Club a la Carte offers a chance to meet, socialize, have fun and take field trips with others from the community who home school just like you! Attend all of the activities or simply pick and choose from the calendar of events and activities. On May 24 from 1 to 2 p.m. join us at Berger's Bike Shop in York Village where we'll learn some "Bike Basics" and see how the experts "tune up" Orion's Trek 3500. On May 25 from 1 to 4 p.m. join us in South Berwick as we bring history to life! The International Women's Club of New England (IWCNE) meets for lunch on the fourth Saturday of every month with an international speaker. Old York Garden Club's Open Garden Days, new for 2007, is a unique garden tour. York Rotary Four on the Forth will be held July 4. The York Rotary Club will be sponsoring the Four on the Forth road race along with York Parks and Recreation. It is a four-mile road race through scenic York Beach and along Long Sands Beach. The registration is open at 6:30 a.m. and the race starts at 8 a.m. at York High School. Gentle Yoga with Janet Clark begins this June at Yoga on York. Classes utilize yoga stretching and strengthening postures designed to bring the body beyond its normal daily restrictions and into a deeper experience of well-being. Janet Clark is a certified hatha yoga teacher and a popular, longtime instructor at York Hospital and York Adult Education. The Southern Maine Agency on Aging facilitates a monthly support group in Kittery for people assisting older adult loved ones. Unpaid family and friends who are helping spouses, parents, siblings and friends are invited to come and talk about the challenges and rewards of care-giving with other people in similar situations. Summer Art Camp at Heartwood College of Art in Kennebunk introduces a summer of inspiring art experiences for children ages 9 to 13 called "Heartwood Bound." The camp program provides children with the opportunity to work closely with professional artist/teachers in a creative, supportive environment. Class size is limited to nine participants, and campers can sign up for one, two, three or four two-week sessions.  Early registration is encouraged due to the limited class size. Wells Public Library and the Wells-Ogunquit Adult Community Education Department will co-sponsor a book discussion group that will meet the first Tuesday evening of the month at 6:30 p.m. in the library. Coffee Shop at the Wells-Ogunquit Senior Center is open Monday through Friday, 9 to 11 a.m., serving regular or decaf coffee, pastries, Congdon's and Dunkin' Donuts, and their own blueberry muffins for $1.50. Thursday's Coffee Club occasionally has a guest speaker.

SUPPORT

A Safe Place, a non-profit agency, has been providing support services and emergency shelter to victims of domestic abuse for over 28 years. A Safe Place has offices in Portsmouth, Rochester and Salem, N.H. FMI or to reach an advocate call 1-(800) 854-3552.

Hospice of York's Living with Loss is a bereavement support group offered free of charge, and you need not have had a loved one serviced by Hospice. Hospice of York encourages pre-registration; however, you may attend any or all of the classes as you see fit. Sessions are held seasonally on Thursdays from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the basement conference room of Medical Office Building 16 on the grounds of York Hospital. FMI: call 363-7000.

The York Hospital Breast Cancer Survivor Group, which meets the third Monday of the month from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Ellis Conference Room at York Hospital, welcomes new members. Those who attend survivor groups cope better, heal more quickly and live longer. New members, whether or not their treatment was at York Hospital, are invited to come to the meetings and be with women who share their story. Friends are welcome too. During these meetings the members share information, coping tips and strategies, explore complimentary therapies, hear guest speakers, support each other, experience sisterhood, plan the Annual Walk for Hope and celebrate living.
