By Jennifer L. Saunders

Ogunquit’s own Fair Skies will be featured in the International Women's Club of New England’s gala fashion show on June 3. Gwyneth Wykes, pictured here, is a resident of York and a14-year member of IWCNE. She will be one of the club’s members modeling in “Global Glamour,” to be held at the Wentworth-by-the-Sea in New Castle, N.H. Wykes has been an international model and commentator both on television and in fashion shows in England, Canada and the United States. In recent years, she has been a volunteer model in New England for many charity fundraising shows for such causes as Southern Maine Medical Center, Portland Dress for Success, the American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women Campaign and the IWCNE. She is also well known to residents of the local area for her annual appearance as Queen Elizabeth in the York Middle School Shakespeare Festival.

OGUNQUIT and YORK - Join the International Women's Club of New England on June 3 at the historic Wentworth-by-the-Sea in New Castle, N.H., for an afternoon of food, fashion, entertainment and even an international marketplace.

And it is all for a good cause.

The International Women's Club is a member of Welcome Clubs International, a worldwide organization whose two-fold mission is to foster goodwill and friendship among people from a variety of backgrounds and to raise money for charities that assist women and children.

Tickets are $50, and include a fabulous international luncheon, entry into the marketplace and a not-to-be-missed fashion show featuring clothing by Ogunquit's own Fair Skies. And among those who will be modeling in this year's event is York resident and international model Gwyneth Wykes.

IWCNE promises that "Global Glamour - Fashion for the 21st Century" will offer something for everyone.

The day will begin at 10:30 a.m. when the international marketplace opens with artisans and boutique items from around the world.

The marketplace will include handcrafted accessories such as Kumboo jewelry, made through an ancient Korean process of adhering 24-karat gold to sterling silver; woven beaded necklaces, enameled pins, tapestry handbags, painted and embellished silk scarves, tote bags, Asian pearl necklaces and jewelry from Chile, Yemen, Morocco, Uganda, Kenya and the United States.

At noon the event will move into the main dining room at the Wentworth for an international menu especially created by the chef for the approximately 200 guests expected at this gala event. There will be cuisine from Italy, France, India and China and guests will enjoy music by a jazz trio as well as a ballroom dancing demonstration by the Rockingham Ballroom Dancing Stars.

Throughout the day, IWCNE members will be giving away door prizes and selling raffle tickets. Items to be raffled include weekend and overnights getaways, jewelry and home accessories.

Culminating the day's events is the International Fashion Show, which is being presented by Fair Skies of Ogunquit and Portsmouth, N.H., and by Jones New York of Kittery. As a special treat, all clothing will be modeled by IWCNE members.

According to the IWCNE's recent announcement of the special event, the fashions to be modeled include various sizes and styles ranging from casual to dressy so that, whether you're a "jet setter or armchair traveler, you'll see wonderful clothes perfect for town, at home or abroad."

The IWC New England was founded in 1992 by Anna Kristina Sawtelle and, like all of the IWC clubs, is nonprofit, nonpolitical and nonsectarian.

Since 1992, through various events, IWCNE has awarded more than  $100,000 to a variety of charities that support women and children in the Seacoast area. Last year's recipients were Families First Health and Support Center of Portsmouth, N.H., Women Aid of Greater Portsmouth and the Biddeford Free Clinic.
