Summertime, and the library's busy

By Children's Librarian Kathleen Whalin

YORK - May marks the end of one set of programs in the York Public Library's Children's Room and the beginning of another set of events.

During the fall, winter and spring we have a variety of ongoing and special activities to entertain, amuse and educate our young users. These include weekly story hours, monthly music and art activities, special after-school programs and a range of special events during school vacation times. With the end of May comes the end of this cycle of programming, planned and organized by the valiant Children's Programming Committee and library staff. They'll be back in the fall.

The tempo of programming changes during the summer months. Story hours will be held this summer on Fridays at 10:30 a.m. Plan to be part of this year's Summer Reading Program, "Get a Clue at Your Library," which begins just after school ends.

Plan to read lots of books and always check this column for details about mystery movies; three very special performances - a magic show, tales told by a storyteller and a puppet show presented by a noted troupe of puppeteers; a mysteriously moving mascot; a party celebrating the last book in the series about H.P. and "he who can't be named," and more... York Public Library this summer: the place to be!
