Little League
YORK - There has been plenty of baseball and softball action for the town's Major and Minor Little League teams in the past week.
Minor League Baseball: Giants 10, Orioles 0
In a game that was far closer than the score indicates, the Giants defeated the Orioles, 10-0. Garrett Lillie pitched a stellar game for the Orioles, striking out 10 through four innings, while scattering a handful of hits. The Orioles had several chances to score and outplayed the Giants in the early going, loading the bases twice with none out, but were thwarted by a Giants' triple-play triggered by Forrest Kelley, as well as some heads-up catching by Will Pratt. Offensively, the Giants were led by Joe Yauch (three hits) and Jonah Mitchell (two hits).
Minor League Baseball: May 21 - Orioles 4, Royals 1
For the Orioles, Colby Berger and Sam Desmaris combined on a two-hitter while striking out eight Royals. Jackson Hay and Rory Day had hits for the Orioles while Nick Noerdlinger, Phil Zeller and Matt Trainor had key RBIs.
Minor League Baseball: Devil Rays 6, Rockies 4
The Devil Rays staged a late-inning comeback led by strong pitching performances from Jack Bouchard and Jack McDonald, who combined for 16 Ks over six innings. Malcolm Hughes hit the game winner with a double that scored two runs. Ben Fintiz had two RBIs while McDonald chipped in with two hits. Joe Cooper and Bouchard reached base twice in support of the late-game rally.
Minor League Baseball: May 23 - Pirates 3, Orioles 2
The Pirates got a strong pitching performance from Reid Chase and Graham Giffen helped out with a three-run triple. Jack Rohrer, Mark Slusher and the entire Pirate team played excellent defense for their second win of the season.
Minor League Baseball: May 24 - Pirates 8, Tigers 2
Liam Boner had another good pitching performance, with excellent defensive help from his teammates. Kyle McKinnon provided solid hitting and key catch in the outfield. Justin Lamoureaux had a diving catch at third base. The Pirates got timely hits from Graham Giffen, Jordan Pidgeon and Reid Chase.
Minor League Baseball: May 28 - Orioles 9, Rockies 4
The Orioles beat the Rockies 9 to 4 behind the strong pitching and defense of Colby Berger. Garrett Lillie also pitched well for the Orioles. Matt Trainor and Rory Day had two hits each and Hunter McKay had a walk and a RBI.
Major League Softball: May 21 - Rangers 17, Red Sox 9
Seven strikeouts for Nicki DellaPasqua of the Rangers and she also had two singles and a double at the plate. Ashley Lomasney had a double. The Red Sox gave up a lot of walks. For the Red Sox Jessie Foggarty had a single (1 for 4), Marquis had a single, two doubles and a triple (4 for 4), Colleen Keenan (3 for 4) had a single and a double, Ivy Sheehan had three singles (3 for 4), Kendal Carr (3 for 3) had three singles and Catherine Boner (2 for 3) had two singles.
Major League Baseball: May 23 - Nationals 10, Blue Jays 7
The Nationals staged a four-run fourth inning comeback to give Bailey McKenna the 10 to 7 win over the Jays. Spencer Fox went deep in the first inning and added a double in the fourth for the Nationals. McKenna helped out his cause by going 3 for 4 at the plate and scoring a run. Kevin McKenna added a hit and scored a run in the fourth inning rally for the Nats. Tim Connolly (2 doubles, 2 RBI, 2 runs), Tommy Arsenault (double, 1 RBI, 2 runs), Drew Handley (hit, 2 RBI), and Zane Insko (hit, run) hit the ball well for the Jays. Andrew LaMonica turned a smooth 6-3 double play in the first inning for the Jay
