Scrappy Lady Wildcats lose three, win one

YORK - Last Friday, the struggling Lady Wildcats, 3 and 12, lost another road game in this long season.
The Poland Lady Knights (6-8) took an early lead with four runs in the first inning and two more in the second. The Lady ‘Cats never gave up and, paced by the hitting of Linnie Blais with a double and two singles and Becky Enright with three singles, York battled back with two runs in the fourth and two in the seventh.
Enright opened on the mound for York while Jolene Ciampa came on in relief in the second. The final score was Poland 9, York 4.
Last Thursday, May 24, the York Lady Wildcats upset Old Orchard, 9 to 5.
The Lady Wildcats (3-11) were trailing 5-0 in the fourth inning but rallied with four runs to close the gap and then went on to win with five runs in the sixth
York was paced by a triple off the bat of Ciampa and a series of bunt singles including a squeeze bunt RBI by Emily Marshall. Ciampa pitched a complete game and Glenn Swanson did the catching.
One day earlier, it took six innings but a strong Wells Warrior team used one big inning to down the Lady Wildcats softball team by the final score of 13 to 1 last Wednesday, May 23
The York Lady Wildcats took the long bus ride to Fryeburg Academy last Tuesday, May 22, but lost to the undefeated Lady Raiders by the final score of 13-1.
York scored a single run in the first and held the lead until the last of the third when Fryeburg countered with a single run.
Becky Enright started on the mound for York and was followed by Ciampa with Swanson handling the catching chores.
Blais had two hits for York but Fryeburg manufactured four runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to improve their record to 12-0
York will play their final game of the season today, Wednesday, May 30, at Yarmouth.
