The Gateway Farmer's Market opens June 9
YORK - It's a sure sign of summer when the Gateway Farmer's Market opens for the season.
And according to the Greater York Region Chamber of Commerce, your wait is nearly over.
The Gateway's Farmer's Market will kick off the official 2007 summer season with a grand opening on Saturday, June 9, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Greater York Region Chamber of Commerce Visitor's Center on Route 1.
The market is sponsored by Stonewall Kitchen whose owners, Jim Stott and Jonathan King, first shared their specialty foods at farmer's markets in Portsmouth and Exeter, N.H.
As part of the opening celebration, Stott and King will open the gates to welcome everyone at the start of the event. Then, at 9:30 a.m., September, a local acoustic trio with a sound that blends folk, jazz and blues with intricate vocal harmonies and guitar accompaniment, will be featured from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.
The market will feature many favorite vendors from the past as well as some new additions joining the event for the first time.
After June 9, the Market will be open every Saturday through Oct. 6. During the last sixteen years, they have grown their business to become a multi-million dollar manufacturer of specialty foods, with headquarters and production facility located next to the chamber on Route 1.
