Fireworks and more at Tuesday's Board of Selectmen meeting
By Jennifer L. Saunders
OGUNQUIT - The Board of Selectmen was scheduled to meet Tuesday evening, June 5, at 7 p.m., and while the meeting occurred after press time, the agenda was filled with items of interest to local residents.
Prior to the meeting's start at 7 p.m., Ogunquit selectmen were scheduled to hold a private executive session on the ongoing issue of school funding and consolidation.
Once the public session convened, the board had a full list of items to tackle, including an agenda item on the Village Spirit Committee and plans for the July 6 fireworks.
For the past two years, Ogunquit has not had a Fourth of July fireworks display in order to ensure the safety of piping plover nests on Ogunquit Beach.
Also on the agenda, the selectmen were scheduled to discuss a Beach Plum Farm event with the Great Works Regional Land Trust; ratify the Ogunquit Professional Firefighters Association Agreement through 2009, and discuss a ladder truck for the Ogunquit Fire.
Also under unfinished business, the board was expected to discuss remediation along the Marginal Way access path.
New business scheduled for Tuesday night included a discussion of the Seventh Annual Lobster Dash in September; the 2007 Maine AIDS Walk, scheduled for Oct. 13; Perkins Cove parking, and a presentation form Vince Thelin of Rocking Horse Stables regarding a horse-and-carriage ride business.
See next week's edition of The Independent for details on the meeting.
