YHS wrestlers to host annual exchange June 21
YORK - The York High School Wrestling will play host to the 23rd Annual Maine vs. Nebraska All-Star Friendship Wrestling Match on Thursday, June 21, at 6 p.m.
Come watch Maine's best high school wrestlers take on Nebraska's champions. The annual wrestling exchange is meant to promote friendship and culture between the two vastly different states.
Each alternates as host and the teams spend a week touring, wrestling, and just getting to know a geographically and culturally different environment. The lineup for Maine includes 10 former or current state champions and represents nine area high schools.
The athletes include Joe Badger, Noble; Dalton Groeger, Bonny Eagle; Billy Gauthier, York; Ryan Toussaint, Biddeford; Zach Clarke, Sanford; Peter Gilman, Massabesic; Alex Hymanson, York; Tom Ciampa, York; Ryan Vartanian, Wells; Andrew Howe, Westbrook; Joe Eon, Massabesic; Bill Barry, Wells; John Hussey, Marshwood; Ray Gauthier, York; Josh Eon, Massabesic; Matt Wheeler, Wells; Gene Jones, York; Nick Mercurio, York, and Cory Holland, Massabesic.
The public is welcome. Admission is $3 for adults, $1 for students and free for senior citizens and children under the age of 10.
