Fireworks plan still up in the air

By Melissa Wood

OGUNQUIT - Whether or not there will be Fourth of July fireworks in Ogunquit still remains to be seen.

The Village Spirit Committee, the group planning a fireworks celebration for Friday, July 6, has until a deadline of this Friday, June 15, to raise the money and get commitments squared away, according to Selectman John Miller.

The group appeared before the Board of Selectmen with an update on Tuesday, June 5, but at that time they did not yet have the funding needed to host the display.

For the past two years the town has not had Fourth of July fireworks because of concerns about the safety of piping plover nests on Ogunquit Beach.

In previous years, the fireworks celebration was hosted by the Ogunquit Chamber of Commerce.
