York Little League playoffs begin
YORK - Little League playoff action has begun in York.
Minor League Baseball Playoff, June 10: Giants 8 - Cubs 3
The Giants were led by strong pitching and defense by Jonah Mitchell and Griffin Mercer. Cody Spicer knocked in 4 runs with 2 singles, while Chris Young and Andrew Young contributing hits. Forrest Kelley had a hit and played a solid game at first base. The Cubs were paced offensively by a booming triple hit by Cameron Curtin, while Ian Hovde and Reid Hogan pitched a fine game.
Major League Baseball: Marlins 5 - Phillies 0
Zach Leal pitched 5 and 2/3 innings of no-hit ball against the Phillies, having to leave the game because of the new pitch count rule of 85 pitches. Leal struck out 14 batters. Kyle Cone, Matt Pratt and Leal all had two hits for the Marlins. Derek Neal pitched well for the Phillies striking out five while only walking one. Andrew Cunningham and Mitchell Lee played well in the field for the Phillies.
Major League Baseball: Blue Jays 5 - Padres 4
Daniel Bock struck out 5 over 3 innings and collected the win as Connor Smith pitched well in relief and Andrew LaMonica closed things out for the Jays. Mitchell Hickey had a 2-run double and Bock added a double and scored twice for the Jays. Jays' catcher Tim Connolly grabbed a nice bunt and fired a bullet to 1st to get the second out in the bottom of the sixth and keep the potential tying run off the bases. Morgan Briggs showed his power and provided the all Padres' RBI with his 2 two-run dingers in the 3rd and 5th innings.
Minor League Baseball: Devil Rays 11 - Reds 1
For the Devil Rays, Jack Bouchard reached base four times, including a two RBI single. Joe Cooper also reached four times. Adam Schoff, Ben Finitz (2 RBI single), and Mac Walter each reached three times. Two shutout innings were pitched by Jack McDonald and Joe Cooper. D-Rays turned two double plays, including an unassisted double play by Joe Cooper. Opposing team results were not received by press time.
Minor League Baseball: Devil Rays 14 - Cubs 5
For the Devil Rays, Josh White (2 singles and a double) and Grant Mahoney (4 singles) paced the hitting effort each reaching 5 times apiece, and 8 of 9 Rays scored a run. Ben Finitz and Josh White each gave up one run over two innings on the mound. Please note opposing team results were not received by press time.

The Home Run Derby, sponsored by Century 21, is this Saturday, June 16, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Smith Field in York.
