RESCUE ME. Members of the York Fire Department, York Beach Fire Department, York Sewer District and York Water District took part in a contained rescue training exercise on Friday, June 8. The purpose of involving the four departments was to train enough rescuers so that somebody will always be on hand who knows how to handle this type of rescue. In the simulated manhole rescue exercise pictured here, for example, emergency workers needed to first test the air and then ventilate the air, and the rescuer must wear a respirator before attempting to go down into the manhole.
