NORTH HAMPTON, N.H. - With hot, summer weather finally here, the folks at NouveauDerm Medspa want people to know there's more than one way to look good at the beach.
They're offering anti-aging treatments, as well as prevention techniques, at their facility in North Hampton, N.H. All treatments are noninvasive and performed in a spa-type atmosphere under a physician's supervision.
Mark Windt, M.D., said people may be surprised by how fast and effective techniques at the NouveauDerm Medspa are compared to older technologies. He said the concept of "medspas" that offer an array of anti-aging treatments for women and men and, in addition, promote a healthy lifestyle and prevention techniques, are cropping up all over the country.
"We're trying to educate the public as to what's available," said Windt, who is joined at the spa by two certified licensed estheticians and a nurse practitioner.
Windt said that more and more men are seeking the kinds of treatment that they offer, especially now that they are less painful with the up-to-date technology.
"Certainly as a guy, we don't tolerate as much pain as women do," said Windt.
Often men have to be pushed by their partners to come to the spa, said Windt, just like they have to be pushed to do other things, such as shopping or going to the doctors. He said one client's wife brought her husband to the spa to get rid of hair in his ears. Windt said after several treatments, she's ecstatic, and her husband is glad she's happy.
Esthetician Kathy Leary, who previously worked at Freedom Salon and Day Spa in York, has a medical background and graduated from the Institute of Skin Science in Rye, N.H., said the spa uses the latest technology for hair removal called IPL (intense pulse light).
"It's a brand new technology," said Leary. "IPL is less painful and more effective, in my opinion."
Leary said joined the Medspa because she wanted to be offer her clients a full-range of treatments, beyond the salon.
Esthetician Marianne Alexander said the combination of a wide range of services, the comprehensive medical knowledge of the staff, and the "luxurious" spa atmosphere transforms into a real nurturing of the patients. That ability to nurture people is why she chose her career as a medical esthetician.
"I literally want to help and heal you and get you on your way," said Alexander, who called the approach a holistic view of the person. "I want to continue to help you reach whatever your personal goals are and be there with you every step of the way."
The spa offers a variety of skin treatments that can be used own or together, such as Botox injections, dermal fillers and microdermabrasian. Alexander said their clientele is all ages and includes people who have skin disorders, such as Rosacea, or 20-year-olds who have done a lot of tanning and want to find out what they can do to take better care of their skin.
With summer and beach days coming fast, Windt said that NouveauDerm is the only facility in the area to offer the VelaSmooth Body Contouring and Cellulite reduction system, which kneads the targeted area and applies a suction to improve circulation. He said the device is the first FDA-approved way to get rid of cellulite and was featured in Today Show segment where the participant who tried it had a 70-percent cellulite reduction.
Windt said the VelaSmooth is also useful for getting rid of underarm sag, reduce jowls, and the love handles that men can have.
"It really is a body shaping technology," he said, who added that another benefit was that treatments usually only take about six weeks and don't require any recovery time. "You get it done and you leave. ... There's no recuperation period."
