News from Kittery’s Rice Public Library

KITTERY - The Rice Public Library recently joined the state's MINERVA library system.

All library users will be issued a card - free to Kittery and Kittery Point residents, which they may use to access some great state-supported services. The MINERVA and MAINECAT systems, reachable from our library's website, http://www.rice.lib.me.us/, allows any Rice Library cardholder to order a book, DVD or other item from over 150 public and college libraries throughout Maine - and have it delivered to the Rice Library for them for pick up in a day or two.

Over 13 million titles are now available to all our cardholders - bestsellers, academic and specialized titles, out-of-print books, etc. Also available to Rice Library cardholders now is MARVEL, Maine's virtual library of 50 databases. The databases cover every subject imaginable: full text articles from over 1,000 magazines and journals, expert medical resources, newspapers such as the Boston Globe and Wall Street Journal, online encyclopedias, and specialized scientific and educational sites like ERIC and Oceanic Abstracts. Cardholders can reach MARVEL by going to our website and clicking on Research Tools.

We hope that everyone from Kittery and Kittery Point will stop in soon to pick up their new card and start using these great new services!

U.N.H. Little Red Wagon Theatre presents "Don't Count Your Chickens Until They Cry Wolf" on June 29 at 6 p.m. at the Rice Building of the Rice Public Library, 8 Wentworth St., Kittery. Aesop was never so charming! Clever lyrics, ancient wisdom, today's wit and Little Red Wagon's signature giant puppets are an irresistible combination. Highlights: the famous race of tortoise and hare ("You got to keep on keeping on"); a soft shoe number by the fox ("Flatter them, and you'll walk away with the cheese"); a rousing peasant dance in the bundle of sticks ("The trick is to stick together"); a chorus line of sheep ("If he's got fleece but the wrong kind of nose, maybe he's simply a wolf in sheep's clothes"). This show is a joy for children and adults alike.

Please call the Rice Library for more information on any of the above at 439-1553.
